You were the one who got away…the foster we wished we had adopted.
Three years later, a call came…..you needed a home. We were given a second chance…….you came back to us. Oh the joy to see you again and to hold you in our arms! We knew we could never let you go. You were ours...we were bound by the red thread of destiny. You were home at last.
You were our HUGE boy! Tall, lanky, lean and oh so beautifully handsome……
You could be serious and solemn, your eyes held so much wisdom.
And you could be silly and goofy, air biting at us and “talking” in a language we somehow understood just fine.
You were beauty and grace.
And joy and love.
More than we deserved.
All too soon, you were 12…..and didn’t feel as well as you used to. There were health problems. And finally it became clear that there were more bad days than good. Your beautiful eyes told us it was time to be strong……..to let you go…….to let you be whole again….You made your journey with the same dignity and grace that was so much a part of you…..letting us know clearly that we were doing what you wanted and what was right.
You were entrusted to us and it was a privilege to be your humans. You made our home complete and there is an empty spot here now that nothing can fill.
And so our precious, beloved boy, we won’t say goodbye. We will say, until we are reunited “May you find rest near refreshing waters, may you lie in cool, green pastures, and may you warm yourself under the sun that never sets.”
Wait for us, our love……..
We Love You Always and Forever

A Parting Prayer
Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.
Assign him to a place of honor,
for he has been a faithful servant
and has always done his best to please us.
Bless the hands that send him to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing him from pain and suffering.
Grant us the strength not to dwell on our loss.
Help us remember the details of his life
with the love he has shown us.
And grant us the courage to honor him
by sharing those memories with others.
Let him remember us as well
and let him know that we will always love him.
And when it's our time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow him to accompany those
who will bring us home.
Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of his companionship
and for the time we've had together.
And thank you, Lord,
for granting us the strength
to give him to you now.
Amen.
