The Road to a Home

Ever see the cartoon where a cat is chasing a mouse and the mouse darts under in a little hole and the cat slames into wall? Well, Niki knows about it first hand. Instead of a mouse, it was a squirrel this girl was chasing and instead of a wall, it was a fence at her foster's home. Whamo. Yow. Followed by great greyhound drama. Let's say right here, despite everything, she's making a full recovery and will shortly be back on the homevisit circuit. Meanwhile...

That all happened over the weekend. Since then, she's been getting daily bandage changes (no broken bones, but a wound where the skin on her right foreleg was pushed up; also a cut on her shoulder that's closed with staples.)

You'd think the trauma would have dampened her spirit, but it hasn't. Not in the least. She's pretty much on crate rest right now to give her injuries the chance to heal. Even so, she's thrilled to go out on leash to do her business and extends these forays whenever possible by sniffing the grass, the dirt, the driveway, the steps, her leash. Watching the birds. Stalling. You get the idea.

Daily bandage changes continue for the rest of the week. Will post updates over the next few days. Things have got to look up from here, she says.

Little People are Nice

Niki here checking in from my new foster home. They tell me that I’m such a good girl that I get to spend time with even more people. You know what I found out? I love little people! They give me nice ear rubs and keep me company next to my bed. Even when they are noisy, I don’t mind. My new foster mom says I’d do great in a home with kids. She also says I have the cutest ears ever! She loves how they fold over instead of sticking straight up in the air. I like it here but I can’t wait to find my forever home.

Lazy Days

Between the hot weather and my foster sister not feeling too well, we have been pretty lazy the last few days. I've made it my job to stay close by and keep her company while she rests up.

Since I'm such a good sharer, I even let her sleep in my bed.

Until we are all back on our feet and up for more adventures, I will just entertain everyone with my goofiness inside

Meet and Greet

Wow, what a day! I went out with some of my hound friends to Meet and Greet and I met a ton of people of all shapes and sizes. Being the friendly little thing that I am, I made sure I introduced myself to everybody. I'm really a natural at this stuff. And who knows, maybe one of them will adopt me! *fingers crossed*

I put on my "extra cute" face and earned a few dollars for GPAN. Gotta earn my keep!

This human pup and I really seemed to like each other.

I stepped in to relieve my sleepy friend Manny and got some pretty top notch ear rubs. I am one happy, happy girl!

Park Walk

The rain finally cleared up today so we went for a long walk through the park.

That's me there on the right

I really liked watching the golfers and the carts zoom by. I am very curious (and so far pretty fearless) about all these new things around me. I've also never met a stranger!

Retirement Level: Expert

*Whew* retirement sure can take a lot out of a hound. With so many exciting new things to see and do, a girls gotta take a load off once in awhile. My foster mom thinks I've got this whole relaxing thing down. What do y'all think? Am I doing this right?

Dreaming about my forever family <3

Sunshiney Days!

Ladies and Gents, I don't want to brag, but I am such a wonderful girl! Lately, my fun-loving and curious personality has come out more than ever! I am really doing a great job going up and down the hardwood stairs, playing and walking on the wood floors, have mastered my house-training skills, and am just an all-around-fun doggie. My foster parents love taking me to the park, on walks, and around town (I love the car! I get in and out great and lie nicely in the back seat like a good girl). I am playful and interactive with other dogs I meet, but I am very even-keeled and don't get over-excited. I haven't shown one ounce of aggression towards my foster sister, which is pretty amazing considering she is a pip squeak. All and all, life is great and I am doing wonderfully in my new retirement life. :)

I also like to help with laundry!

What a difference a week makes!

Well hello everyone! It's official - retirement is the life for me! It's amazing how an old dog can learn new tricks....in my first week at my foster house, I have made friends with my foster sister, have successfully mastered the stairs (pretty amazing, considering they are hardwood!!), worked on my potty skills and only had one or two accidents, and love to sleep peacefully outside my kennel at night! I love to cuddle - man, I can't believe the difference a big pile of blankies makes in a pup's life! Eating is my favorite thing in the world - I love getting treats for pottying outside, waiting for dinner, going into my kennel like a good girl, and just for being my cute self. Life is good!

Settling In!

Hiya - My name is Niki, and I am a beautiful girl! I've had a BUSY few days, and my life has full of "firsts" lately! Since getting to Nashville, I have learned what a ceiling fan is (ooooh pretty!), what deer are (they kinda look like me!), what carpet is (luxurious!), and met my new foster sister, Hazel. She's little, but we get a long great. I have done great on a leash, am GREYT going down stairs, and am fine-tuning my potty skills. I am going to keep working on going up the stairs and my foster parents are even teaching me how not to "counter surf" - but how can you resist?? There are so many new smells and foods to check out. I love to explore, am coming out of my shell, and have a delightful smile. It'll probably be VERY hard for my foster parents to let me go (if they do!). I will update more this weekend - I am so excited because I get to go hang out at the park with my foster family. Love, Niki

I love walks with my new neighborhood friends!
